Toxicology Profile
NOAEL 2214 mg/kg bw/day CIR 2019 Final, 'Safety Assessment of Alkanoyl Lactyl Lactate Salts as Used in Cosmetics' (alkylL062019final.pdf) -- Sodium Lauroyl Lactylate is one of the 10 ingredients covered by this group conclusion. NOAEL itself is read-across from Sodium Stearoyl Lactylate's 1-year OECD TG 452 rat study (2214 mg/kg/day M / 2641 F, highest dose tested, no treatment-related effects). Direct SLL data in the same report: acute oral LD50 6.81 g/kg and 4.88 g/kg; 10% nonirritating (skin, rabbit); nonirritant (eye, rabbit); weak sensitizer, EC3=15% (LLNA). Not on EU restricted/prohibited lists. Verified against primary source 2026-07-02; NOT yet reviewed by a qualified safety assessor -- flag for Anais/Zeynep before CPSR sign-off.
Genotoxicity No direct SLL genotoxicity data in CIR 2019. Read-across analog Sodium Caproyl/Lauroyl Lactylate was non-genotoxic in Ames (5 strains, +/- S9); Calcium Stearoyl Lactylate also non-genotoxic (Ames + chromosome aberration). Not SLL-specific -- do not cite as direct data.
LD₅₀ Oral 4.88-6.81 g/kg (rat, direct SLL data, CIR 2019)
